Giving to the Kids to Raise Awareness

The Round Rock based nonprofit charity corporation, Pick With Austin, is excited to share their most recent guitar acquisition. This unique guitar will be used to raise funds to help in the charity’s mission to educate and elevate a community awareness about a growing epidemic of youth depression and suicide. Pick With Austin, Inc., founded late last year in memory of Round Rock teen Alan Curley, is partnered with Bluebonnet Trails Community Services which is based out of Round Rock as well.

Round Rock High School teacher Judith Miller (retired), also a recognized local artist, has painted the guitar to honor her memory of Alan. “A fine young man,” says Judith, “Once my student.”

The guitar will tour with The Judith Miller Band during some of their upcoming performances throughout Central Texas. It will also appear at various special events being set up for Pick With Austin. After these events, the guitar will be auctioned off to raise funds for the charity and in memory of her student, Alan Curley.

“Alan continually accepted the cares, problems and troubles of his peers as his own,” Miller observed. “I hope all who view the guitar will feel compelled to own it and bid in a true competitive spirit or donate what you can to help fund the gift of instruments for other young people through Pick With Austin’s continuing effort to address the growing issue of teen depression and suicide.”

The official event kickoff and auction preview party will be on May 14th at B.B. Rovers from 8pm to 11pm. Additional events shall be held May 20th at Mozart’s, May 21st at Becker, and May 22nd at Whole Foods.
